Cllr. Chris Burke |
Lincoln North is a place of both poverty and prosperity.
It contains two of the largest housing estates in the County (Ermine East & West). The majority of City Councillors are
Labour. Lincoln North also boasts an Edwardian and Victorian District in the shadow of the Cathedral and Castle. Like all
Labour councillors I will take up any issue that is brought to my attention. I work to reduce poverty whether it is of the
sprit or the pocket and accordingly I support good and life long learning (I have been a school governor on a number of schools
for over 20 years). I am currently promoting citizenship. I strongly believe in economic regeneration in Lincoln and across
the County and a good quality of life for all. One of my main objectives in this council cycle is to help to build effective
local strategic partnerships (LSP’S) that benefit the whole community. This is not a woolly ideal but about running
with the grain of government and business thinking, not to mention funding. I strongly supported the Bishop of Lincoln’s
selection as Chair of a Lincolnshire Project, the Lincolnshire Assembly which seeks to unite all LSP objectives and help all
of us raise Lincolnshire’s poor economic performance which holds back the rest of the East Midlands Region and denies
the area much needed investment. That said the majority of businesses, trade unions, local government and, importantly, the
voluntary sector are striving hard to raise standards. I am pleased that these and a number of other initiatives are receiving
cross party support. I hugely enjoy representing Lincolnshire people and regard it as a particular honour to be regarded as
a socialist, but one, along with the rest of my colleagues on the Labour Group, prepared
to work with any reasonable person or group for the good of the community.
