Recent conversations
with the leadership of ELDC would indicate that there is to be a real push to alleviate the deprivation that the coastal strip, and
especially Mablethorpe and Trusthorpe, suffers. However there is still reluctance on their behalf to acknowledge the
need for either a swimming pool or skate park facility in this area, so there seems to be a wide gap between their word and
their deeds.
I was pleased
recently to welcome the two portfolio holders for Waste and Highways to view some of the problems we have with the current
amenity site at Trusthorpe. A very lively discussion took place with the Trusthorpe Residents Association members & there
were some frank and honest debates that I believe will lead to benefits for all the interested parties in the long run.
One project that is developing interestingly in Mablethorpe is the Boatshed
Project on Victoria Rd. In its fifteen year existence the project has concentrated on providing an alternative environment
to the Youth Club for young people to meet and access information on any topic causing them concern. Building on this success
the management team recently led a successful bid to turn the building into a Multi-Use Centre, which will see the building
operating for many more hours per week in order to provide help and advice to the community as a whole. With youth representation
sitting alongside the Town Council and other volunteer members on all the management committees this operation is gaining
a well-earned reputation for its professional, yet innovative way of working, so it is a pleasure to be involved with them.
